2 Kings 6:24-33, 7:1-2

Have you ever been in a situation where it seems like the world is falling in all around you?

Our lives are full of situations where it seems like things aren't going our way. And it is not getting any better. Stuff happens.

V 24 the enemy's plan is to always cause you to fail. If he can't get at you through one incident, he will try the process of besiegement. He will attempt to surround you and suffocate you. He will put more and more limitations on you over time to stop you from doing that which you know you should be doing.

In chapter six we see some interesting things happening. These things give us a small clue to as to why besiegement occurs.

Verses 1-7 are about building a bigger, better place and something happens while trying to build it.

Verses 8-23 are the story of Elisha knowing about the attacks of the enemy before they happen, thus thwarting the enemy's schemes. The body of Christ is getting better at recognising the enemy's plans. We know what it is to hear from God and walk out of that revelation.

The body of Christ has done a lot of hearing from God about attacks. We learn quickly what and how the enemy will attack us. But it is not the normal attacks, which usually cause Christians or people problems. The ones that cause the most damage is the long term, sustained besiegement of our lives that causes us to fall.

You can be besieged in many areas:
Concerning the use of finances,
Your personal walk with God,
In relationships with others,
Sexual infidelity,
Rearing children,
Loving your neighbour, loving your wife or husband,
Your own personal health.

What does besiegement cause?

1. It causes you to do things you wouldn't normally do.
They ate dove droppings!!!!!

2. It causes you say things you wouldn't normally say.
V 29 this woman promised to do something very wrong.
You bind yourself in covenants we were never meant to agree to.

3. It causes you to blame someone else for your problems.
The King blamed Elisha and God. Verse 31-33

4. It can cause you to loose patience and attempt to bring change yourself.
V33 "why should I wait any longer".

But in all of this there is only one answer.
The one thing that gives us hope, faith and security is 'the word of the Lord'.

We need the word of the Lord.

The entrance of His word gives light. Psalm 119:130

It's the lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105

Without the word of the Lord the people will perish. No vision = death. Prov 29:18

It's the word of the Lord that compelled Noah to build the ark.
It motivated Moses to go to the greatest leader of his time and demand his people to be let go.
It sustained Daniel in the lions' den.
It causes countless men and women to go where angels fear to tread.
It stirred William Booth to start the Salvation Army.
It caused Kathryn Kuhlman to preach to thousands.
It fired up Andrew Evans to stand for parliament.
It inspired Billy Graham to preach around the world.
It enabled Peter Vacca to establish this church.
This is not the end, for what about Aimee Semple McPherson, Smith Wigglesworth, Dr Yong ye Cho, John Newton, William Wilberforce, Charles Parham, and the myriad of Christian leaders and pastors around the globe who today serve God.
It has and will continue to captivate the hearts and minds of men and women down through the ages to do extraordinary feats for and with God.

The word of the Lord.

Lets not give up hope, for we have the 'word of the Lord'. He will rebuild, he will re-establish and make this church have the influence it is meant to have in society. Let's not forget the words that have come down through the years concerning this church. God has a plan and it includes this church.
